{"id":120,"date":"2008-03-09T21:41:50","date_gmt":"2008-03-09T20:41:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.elementally.co.uk\/presentation-skills-blog\/2008\/03\/09\/the-obvious-e2\/"},"modified":"2008-03-09T21:41:50","modified_gmt":"2008-03-09T20:41:50","slug":"the-obvious-e2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.awareplus.co.uk\/presentation-skills-blog\/the-obvious-e2\/","title":{"rendered":"The obvious #2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The second in the list of &#8220;<strong>Stating the obvious<\/strong>&#8220;&#8230; or &#8220;<strong>Stuff you&#8217;ll kick yourself for if you don&#8217;t sort out<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Some times it&#8217;s so obvious it shouldn&#8217;t need to be a tip&#8230; But the obvious isn&#8217;t always obvious, so here goes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Have a checklist.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Seriously: have it all written down.<\/p>\n<p>By &#8216;it&#8217; I mean all the things you need to sort out before you go on stage. My checklist has two parts to it. The first tells me all the things I need to make sure I take with me from the office (laptop, projector, backups etc.) and the second tells me all the things I need to have got sorted out before I &#8220;go on&#8221;. This would be things such as<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>finding my focus<\/li>\n<li>straightening my tie<\/li>\n<li>checking my flies are done up!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The thing is, no matter how much experience you have, one day you&#8217;ll slip up and this little piece of paper will be your lifesaver at that point.
