They should be able to describe it. I’d say this tool is useful for things other than pitches in Dragon’s Den setups, too!

If they can’t, the slide’s too complicated.

Personally I think five seconds is a bit on the generous side but I’m prepared to go along with it! Â :)

Essentially, if it takes longer than that for an audience to memorise the slide, there’s so much information on it that they have little chance of being able to take it in. Â The real test, of course, isn’t the being able to describe it. Â The real test is being able to understand and interpret it… and then remember it and act on it… but being able to describe it is a reasonable proxy.

Think of billboards by the roadside: you’ve got to be able to understand them, decide what to do with that information and act on it, all in the few seconds it takes you to drive past. If your slides are as effective as that, you’re on the right track!

An old client of mine sent me this (so thanks to Don at Dell!) – it’s a current posting on the Forbes website in which Venture Capitalist Vinod Khosla’s five second rule for testing a […]

[9,12

post-1251","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-presentation-tips","category-reviews-case-studies
["GET
