Old-timers like me remember the big, fundamental gag that ran through a lot of the earlier stuff about the meaning of life, the universe and everything. They finally settled on the meaningless answer \u00e2\u20ac\u212242\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 purely because they couldn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t actually define the question properly.<\/p>\n
A couple of friends of mine have asked what I thought of their presentations this week and been rather taken about when I asked them what the presentation was for. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s about X\u00e2\u20ac\u009d I was told: or \u00e2\u20ac\u0153I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m talking about Y\u00e2\u20ac\u009d.<\/p>\n
Sadly, that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s not good enough – your presentation can\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t be about something, it must be for something. The question that a presenter needs to be able to answer is \u00e2\u20ac\u0153What is your presentation for?\u00e2\u20ac\u009d If you can\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t answer that question, you run the risk of simply telling your audience lots of \u00e2\u20ac\u0153stuff\u00e2\u20ac\u009d – and that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a bit of a blunderbuss approach… you might hit something, but it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s hardly efficient!<\/p>\n
Don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t go and make a presentation \u00e2\u20ac\u0153about my company\u00e2\u20ac\u009d or \u00e2\u20ac\u0153about my project\u00e2\u20ac\u009d: make it \u00e2\u20ac\u0153to encourage people to buy from my company\u00e2\u20ac\u009d or \u00e2\u20ac\u0153to make people interested in joining the project\u00e2\u20ac\u009d.
