Well, you can, but don&#8217;t!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m talking here, about copying slides from one slidedeck to another, be that in PowerPoint, Keynote or anything else. \u00c2\u00a0And obviously I don&#8217;t mean that you should never, ever do it, but I&#8217;d urge you to think long and hard before you do.<\/p>\n<p>I read a post recently where a specialist in PowerPoint training (rather than presenting) suggested that everyone had a basic presentation and just built variations around that theme. \u00c2\u00a0To me, that just about sums up the whole mindset associated with PowerPoint, but that might just be me! \u00c2\u00a0:) \u00c2\u00a0 \u00c2\u00a0The idea was to use the time you saved to do other &#8216;more important&#8217; stuff&#8230; such as standing by the company water cooler. \u00c2\u00a0Perhaps that last bit was a joke.<\/p>\n<p>Yeah, probably.<\/p>\n<p>Thing is, though, when you&#8217;re writing a presentation, there&#8217;s nothing more important than your audience &#8211; not the water cooler, not your boss&#8230; nothing.<\/p>\n<p>Now, I&#8217;m all for doing things as quickly as possible (it&#8217;s one of the reasons I use Keynote, not Powerpoint, after all) but the key words there are &#8220;as quickly as possible&#8221; because by that I mean that you can do things as quickly as possible <strong>within the standards of a good presentation<\/strong>. \u00c2\u00a0A quick-fire\/copy-&amp;-paste mentality isn&#8217;t going to do that, I&#8217;m afraid.<\/p>\n<p>For all presentations you should start with the three standard questions (or another method of designing your presentation) and build from their. \u00c2\u00a0You sure as little green apples shouldn&#8217;t start from what slides you&#8217;ve got and build from <strong>that<\/strong>!<\/p>\n<p>My three questions, by the way are<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>What does my audience already know?<\/li>\n<li>What do they need to know?<\/li>\n<li>What do I need to tell them (and how should I do that?)?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&#8230;. but they&#8217;re the basis of another post.\u00c2\u00a0 All I want to emphasise here is that using them (or your own versions of them) is different from starting from the point of<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>What have I got lie-ing around on my hard drive?<\/li>\n<li>How quickly can I get something assembled that looks acceptable?<\/li>\n<li>What do I want to tell my audience about?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m talking here, about copying slides from one slidedeck to another, be that in PowerPoint, Keynote or anything else. \u00c2\u00a0And obviously I don&#8217;t mean that you should never, ever do it, but I&#8217;d urge you [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[7,8,9,10],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-762","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-personal-blog-related","category-powerpoint-and-other-packages","category-presentation-tips","category-rant"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.awareplus.co.uk\/presentation-skills-blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/762","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.awareplus.co.uk\/presentation-skills-blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.awareplus.co.uk\/presentation-skills-blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.awareplus.co.uk\/presentation-skills-blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.awareplus.co.uk\/presentation-skills-blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=762"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"http:\/\/www.awareplus.co.uk\/presentation-skills-blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/762\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.awareplus.co.uk\/presentation-skills-blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=762"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.awareplus.co.uk\/presentation-skills-blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=762"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.awareplus.co.uk\/presentation-skills-blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=762"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
