Body language for presentations – not oversimplified!

At last!  Some useful presentation skills stuff t odo with body language which isn’t the (painfully) oversimplified stuff like “If your audience does X, they’re thinking Y” or “”If you want your audience to think Y you should avoid gesture X”!

Personally, I’m not sure that things are so simple as to suggest that there are four discrete ‘modes’ of presenting – I suggest they overlap a lot – but it’s a very useful tool for looking at making improvements to your presentations once you’re already fairly good.  I emphasised that last bit because in my experience, non-experienced presenters who try and use this kind of technique tend to get their knickers in a twist (as we say in the UK): trying too hard to get this kind of thing right if you’re not up to it can simply make your presentation look false, stilted and un-natural.
